The rod you use makes a huge difference in progress, but with so many available, it can be tough to know which is best. My Fisch rod progression guide breaks down progression into early, mid, and late games! Then, I’ve recommended the best rods you should use and why.

Let’s get into it!
Early Game
If you’re a beginner, you start with the Flimsy Rod. I’ll be honest, this isn’t a great option. It can only hold 10.4kg, and all the other stats are at 0%. Many players then move onto the Training Rod, but I’d recommend you skip that!
Instead, make sure you purchase the Carbon Rod. You can buy this for 2,000C$ in Moosewood. Let’s take a look at the stats:
- Lure Speed: -10%
- Luck: 25%
- Control: 0.05
- Resilience: 10%
- Max kg: 600kg
For a beginner, these are great stats! Compared to the training rod that can only hold 7.6kg and gives -70% luck, the Carbon Rod will help you to start catching some of the rarer fish that tend to weigh more. The Carbon Rod was my first purchase, and it allowed me to catch an Alligator in Moosewood with ease. That now takes me into the mid-game rod…
Mid Game
Remember I mentioned catching an Alligator? Well, you’ll need one to obtain the perfect mid-game rod. The Fungal Rod is one of my all-time favourites due to the passive ability it has. Each time you fish, there is a 60% chance to get an additional luck boost for 45 seconds. Let’s look at the other stats:
- Lure Speed: -10%
- Luck: 45%
- Control: 0
- Resilience: 0%
- Max kg: 200kg
Don’t be put off by the fact that it holds less weight than the Carbon Rod! The 45% luck boost (alongside the chance to get another boost) is great to help you catch some of the legendary and mythic, which you can sell to make more cash. You can get the Fungal Rod when completing Agaric’s quest.
Another great option is the Sunken Rod. Although it’s best suited for fishing up Treasure Maps (it has a 25% chance to reel one in every 10 catches), it also has a 10% chance to catch a fish with a Sunken Mutation. These sell for 8.25x the regular price. Alongside that, it gives you a huge luck boost! You can obtain this rod from opening Treasure Chests. Let’s take a look at the stats:
- Lure Speed: 30%
- Luck: 150%
- Control: 0.15
- Resilience: 15%
- Max kg: 5,000kg
Late Game
First up is the King’s Rod. The best thing about this rod is how large the control bar is, which makes catching fish that move around quickly a lot easier. Also, the fish you catch are 15% bigger. You can buy this rod for 120,000C$ from Keeper’s Altar. Here are the stats:
- Lure Speed: -45%
- Luck: 55%
- Control: 0.15
- Resilience: 35%
- Max kg: Infinite
Another great option is the Trident Rod. You can buy this for 150,000C$ in the Desolate Deep. If you’re feeling unlucky and still struggling to catch rarer fish, this may be the rod for you:
- Lure Speed: 20%
- Luck: 150%
- Control: 0
- Resilience: 0%
- Max kg: 6,000kg
